The Lantern Folk
Roots Music Society
(formerly Kelowna Folk Club)
A non-profit volunteer-driven organization dedicated to the promotion and fostering of live music and its cultural heritage.
With great support from our members,
many of our concerts are SOLD OUT performances. Our house concert attendees have raved about the experience. We announce these events as we move forward, but please visit us regularly before the event sells out. This is a fabulous way to see these entertainers in a unique intimate setting. |
Our Goal
The Lantern Folk Roots Music Society is a registered non-profit society with a mandate to entertain, educate and inform our audience by presenting performers in an affordable, friendly, and comfortable smoke free environment.
In December 2017, we changed our name to be more inclusive of our members, who come from all over the Okanagan Valley. |
Volunteers
Volunteers are the life blood of our organization; they give us their time, energy and commitment. Without their dedication we would be unable to present our concerts. We bring together people with a shared passion for original, authentic music.
In its twenty years, The Lantern Folk Roots Music Society (in various guises) has supported the many genres that make up modern "folk music" including Blues, Bluegrass, Celtic, Country, Folk Rock, Indie and World Music. |

A TYPICAL EVENING AT ONE OF OUR MAJOR CONCERTS. Seats are available on a “first come, first serve” basis. At 7:00 pm the doors open for general admission. The hall is set up with tables and chairs to enable the combination of music enjoyment and socializing. Prior to the show and during the break, liquid refreshments (beer, wine, coolers, pop, tea and coffee) along with food from the concession are available. We also often have CD’s and/or other merchandise from our featured performer. Liquor tickets must be purchased at the ticket table. Patrons generally mingle and visit with old and new friends after they have secured their seats. |
House ConcertsThe situation at a house concert is similar but a even more intimate and the refreshments are by donation. Of course, we ask that you all respect the home owner’s privacy and frequent only those areas open to the audience. Typically, there will not be tickets at the door except for “will call”.
When the lights go down you will be welcomed by a member of our executive. There may also be announcements at this time. The artist will then take the stage for the first set and the music will begin. |
Members and Entertainers
Our audience members and entertainers are from all walks of life and come together in the wonderful community around music. There is a beautiful energy created that has touched a lot of lives over the years. We know of at least one marriage where the couple met between sets, while a discussion about the evening’s entertainment was taking place in the refreshment line. We offer great music so please join us for another season of great talent in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. Bring a friend and enjoy a fine evening. |
